Kidriffic Events for September 21-22, 2013

Hello everyone! I hope you had a great week. Mine got better yesterday since dh got home from Afghanistan, woot! So I’ve been busy catching up with him and totally forgot to do an events entry, but have no fear. Nbc4 did a great one for me! You can find it here. One of my favorite events is happening, the national book festival. Johanna and I won’t make it this year though because this weekend is all about relaxation for us. So go out and enjoy yourselves and tell me which events you enjoyed.

Kidriffic Events for September 14-15, 2013

Hello all. I just want to say that I do owe you all an updated entry on meeting up with my biological father, but I’m still processing. I haven’t even discussed it with dh yet. But I promise not to leave you hanging. When I’m ready to, I will write about it. Thank you for all of your support and prayers. They mean a lot to me.

Speaking of dh, he left for Afghanistan and has been gone for a week. Johanna isn’t taking it very well. She looks like she is to others, but I know this child really well and I can see how it has affected her. She’s even sleeping more than normal. So I decided to take us on a mini-staycation. That’s when you don’t leave your state, but just get a hotel room nearby and relax, do some site seeing, etc. Today we did a lot of resting and went to see a Nats game (we won, go Nats!). Tomorrow we will swim a little and just relax, grab some ice cream, chill. I hope everyone had a great week, and here’s to an even better weekend!

1001942_713659711982854_397197306_nThere will be over 70 exhibiting artists, live entertainment, food, and arts and crafts. What to Wear When Meeting Your Bio-Dad

Tonight I will have one of the most awkward dinners of my life. While I wish I had the time to dive into my family history, I don’t today. Perhaps in a future post. Just know that I’ve only seen my biological dad maybe five times, and that could definitely be a stretch, in my entire life. In my adult years he has asked me to call him a time or two, but honestly, I didn’t feel like that was my responsibility, so I didn’t. Plus, I was fine. I had my dad and my mom, no space for him. To add to it, he is an alcoholic. That has made every interaction with him extremely uncomfortable. I didn’t have time nor space for that in my life. Today, my mom has been gone for 2.5 years and I’ve been told bio-dad hasn’t been drinking. I’ve run out of excuses.

And honestly, I’m curious. I wonder if there’s a hole in me that I’m not aware of that can be fixed by having a conversation with this man. I already know and acknowledge that his absence has caused me to have abandonment issues. I wonder if there’s more?

So, while I’m looking forward to this dinner, I’m not. Tonight, I won’t have my buffer, my mother, with me. Because of that I feel lost. I don’t have anything, or anyone to hide behind.

He and I have text back and forth about our dinner tonight with my responses being dry, yet polite and his being spirited. What has made me feel curious, yet uncomfortable already is how much even through text, he sounds like me. His words were words I use with others all the time and I don’t like it. It makes me feel edgy because he is unworthy to be like me.

And no, he won’t be meeting Johanna. He hasn’t earned that right yet. This might sound uppity, but I don’t let people that are unworthy of her light around her. They have to prove themselves first. Johanna will be with her grandfather, or papa as she calls him.

If you believe in Jesus, will you say a prayer for me? Send me lots of good energy. This is kind of a big deal.

Now, I gotta go find the outfit that says I’m closed off, but curious lol.

New Protective Style for Fall

Lately I have been tired of doing my hair. As you all know, I’m natural, which means I often have to wear my hair in a protective style. The problem is, a lot of the protective styles I do don’t stay put all week long. I always have to redo some portion of it and it drives me batty! But then, a little birdie posted this youtube video about how to do Havana twists and ma’am? Ma’am! I am in love! Super duper easy and I’ve gotten a ton of compliments. What do you think?
